The mission of the Apalachicola Riverkeeper is to provide stewardship and advocacy for the protection of the Apalachicola River and Bay, its tributaries and watersheds, in order to improve and maintain its environmental integrity, and to preserve the natural scenic, recreational and commercial fishing character of these waterways.

Recent Accomplishments

--Formed statewide coalition to preserve water flows in on-going Georgia, Florida, Alabama Water Wars
--Stopped Corp of Engineers dredging of Apalachicola River
--Provided the legal strategy that led to the Franklin County Commission’s repeal of 2 large scale land use amendments, which removed 840 potential lots from the County’s comprehensive plan.
--Is responding to the BP oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. Our Gulf Waterkeepers are the first line of defense during this ongoing disaster. Their incredible knowledge of the marshes, wetlands, beaches, and inner-coastal waters make them invaluable first responders. Their commitment makes them critical and effective community leaders.
