To patrol and protect the Maryland & northern Virginia Eastern Shore Coastal Bays, standing up to polluters and guaranteeing everyone’s right to clean water

Recent Accomplishments

--Launched a campaign to force the poultry industry to accept responsibility for its waste stream and in 2010 sued Perdue Farms Inc for Clean Water Act violations related to discharges into impaired waters.
--Successfully worked with Worcester County, MD to require no new direct discharges of wastewater effluent to the watershed by the Town of Berlin– must be spray/drip irrigation applied in accordance with County regulations
--Partnered with Town of Ocean City, MD and Worcester County Health Department in a public awareness campaign to prevent restaurants from dumping kitchen wastes down storm drains. Storm drains discharge directly to Coastal Bays
--In partnership with Chesapeake Waterkeepers: Successfully sued Maryland Dept of Agriculture for public access to CAFO Nutrient Management Plans and successfully sued Maryland Dept of Enviroment to force a stronger, better General Permit for Construction Site Stormwater discharges. And in partnership with Susquehanna RIVERKEEPER, currently challenging Maryland Department of Environment CAFO discharge permits.
