The Alamosa Riverkeeper strives for a clean and functional river system which benefits the economic, ecological and recreational needs of the community.

Recent Accomplishments

--Ongoing water quality sampling in the Alamosa River and in private household wells
--$18 million in EPA stimulus funds for a water treatment plant at the Summitville Mine Superfund Site to remove contaminants, at 1,600-gallons-per-minute, before the water enters the headwaters of the Alamosa River.
--Ongoing engineering and legal analyses to acquire senior water rights for the Instream Flow Project, improving riparian habitat, replenishing groundwater, allowing for fishery development, and improving the natural environment of the Alamosa River.
--In 2010, Colorado and Alamosa Riverkeeper agreed that additional water quality data is needed to acurately characterize water quality conditions in the mainstem of the Alamosa River.
