Through education, partnership and advocacy, Lake Pend Oreille Waterkeeper works to protect the water quality of Lake Pend Oreille , as well as to improve the health and viability of the people and ecosystems which rely upon or live close to Lake Pend Oreille.

 

Recent Accomplishments

*Watchdogs aquatic pesticide applications and advocates for minimal and legal use.
*Facilitating a research project using a native weevil as a potential sustainable and non-polluting alternative to pesticides for invasive milfoil control.
*Monitors wastewater discharge permits and will enforce the Clean Water Act as needed. Advocates for stronger rules governing septic systems.
*Monitors construction sites, responds to stormwater pollution reports, and works to ensure compliance with the law.
