Deb Self

Deb Self is Executive Director and Baykeeper at San Francisco Baykeeper, a founding member of the Waterkeeper Alliance. Established in 1989, as the fourth Waterkeeper organization nationwide – and first on the Pacific Coast – San Francisco Baykeeper defends the estuary and coastal waters of the San Francisco Bay from sewage spills, pollution runoff from city streets and industrial facilities, toxic discharges from a large oil and chemical industry, and pollution associated with the country's fourth largest maritime port.  Deb provides strategic leadership for all aspects of the Baykeeper's operations and oversees Baykeeper’s legal, advocacy and science activities.  She also oversees all financial management, development and communications progarms. A staff member of Baykeeper since 2003, Deb has more than thirty years of experience in nonprofit development, environmental policy and citizen enforcement of environmental laws. Her Masters in sociology focused on environmental justice, and she holds a bachelors degree in geology.
