San Francisco Baykeeper: Development Associate

Baykeeper seeks an enthusiastic
individual to play a key role in our
development and communications program,
particularly in managing and expanding
Baykeeper’s membership. Because we are a small
and flexible organization with diverse
fundraising and communication strategies, the
position offers the chance to develop in-depth
skills in a wide range of responsibilities,
from public outreach and membership development
to online communications and event management.
The Development Associate reports to the
Development Manager and works closely with the
Development Manager and Executive Director to
help plan and execute the organization’s
fundraising and communications
initiatives.
Responsibilities
The
Development Associate is an exciting and
well-rounded position focused on fundraising
and communications for San Francisco Baykeeper.
This person will:
*
Manage Baykeeper’s membership program by
coordinating mailings, processing donations and
writing acknowledgement
letters.
* Coordinate the
organization’s membership outreach efforts,
including building relationships to expand
membership among Baykeeper’s stakeholders in
the community – particularly recreational users
of the Bay such as boaters, swimmers and
windsurfers.
* Manage Baykeeper’s donor database and
records.
* Write
compelling content for electronic and print
communications, including our website,
e-newsletters, fundraising appeals and print
newsletters.
* Help plan
and execute fundraising
events.
* Coordinate and
expand Baykeeper’s social networking
presence.
* Work with
Baykeeper’s Public Affairs Associate to
increase awareness of Baykeeper’s media
coverage and Bay pollution
issues.
* Participate in
planning the department’s fundraising calendar
and development and communications
strategies.
* Manage some
operational tasks for the
organization.
Qualifications
Ideal
candidates will have the following
qualifications:
* 2-3
years experience managing projects in a
fast-paced, professional environment;
experience in a development office is strongly
preferred.
* Excellent
writing and communication
skills.
* Experience with
membership, community and/or public
outreach.
* Experience in
database management (preferably Raiser’s
Edge).
* Superior
attention to detail and ability to manage
multiple projects
simultaneously.
*
Proficiency in Microsoft
Office.
* Experience with
website and/or e-newsletter management
tools.
* Experience
managing print, mailing and/or event
vendors.
* Ability to
learn about water quality advocacy for San
Francisco Bay and communicate about the issues
in a compelling way.
*
Willingness to take on a wide variety of tasks
in a small, team-oriented nonprofit
environment.
*
Demonstrated experience in nonprofit pursuits;
experience in nonprofit fundraising and/or
communications is highly valued. Demonstrated
commitment to environmental
protection.
* Willingness
to work extended hours on evenings and weekends
on occasion.
