Yadkin Riverkeeper: Dir. of Operations & Programs
Type of Position: The Director of
Operations and Programs is a full time,
salaried position.
Founded
in 2008, Yadkin Riverkeeper Inc. (YRK) is one
of the fastest growing environmental advocacy
organizations in NC. We are currently seeking a
dynamic, experienced self starter to join our
staff in March 2010 as the Director of
Operations and Programs. The Director of
Operations and Programs will play a central
role in continuing the organizations growth and
success by working with the Executive Director
to manage day to day operations as well as
successful implementation and continued
financial support for our programs by directing
the organizations major gifts program, special
events, membership and development
programs
Position Summary:
To
support our growing workload, YRK seeks a
highly motivated, creative individual with
non-profit management and fundraising
experience to guide and implement an ambitious
fundraising plan to take us to new capacity
levels. The Director of Operations and
Programs (DOP) will coordinate with the
Executive Director/Yadkin Riverkeeper in
leading the organization in the development and
implementation of a multi-year fundraising plan
that emphasizes major donors and membership
acquisition, and includes foundation support
and board fundraising capacity building. The
position also plays a key role in building and
supporting new and existing programs and our
advocacy campaigns. The successful candidate is
a creative self-starter capable of working
independently as well as in close collaboration
with staff and board, and with demonstrated
experience initiating projects and advancing
them successfully. While it is essential that
the DOP bring efficient and effective systems
to increase the productivity of the
organization, is it also critical that this
individual embraces a team concept in order to
maintain the entrepreneurial and creative spark
that has helped raise the profile of the Yadkin
Riverkeeper program and one of nation’s largest
river basins.
Specific
Responsibilities:
Organizational and
fundraising planning: Work with Executive
Director/Yadkin Riverkeeper to implement and
oversee office protocols and ambitious
fundraising plan to take us to new levels of
revenue and support a multi-organizational
budget. Work with Board to develop Board
capacity for fundraising. Oversee grant
contracts with project partners. Assist with
human resource functions pertaining to office
support staff (including drafting position
descriptions, hiring, timesheet management, and
other related responsibilities as required).
Write, proofread, and revise various kinds of
literature and correspondence including
letters, memoranda, bulletins, brochures, list
serve announcements, newsletters, meeting
minutes and mailings.
Membership
Development: Revamp membership
acquisition and renewal infrastructure and
implement strategies to grow our membership
significantly. Responsible for membership
appeals, renewals, and
acquisition.
Major Donor
Program: Develop and initiate, with close
support from the Executive Director, Board, and
staff, a major donor campaign building on
existing members and new donors; Includes donor
research, cultivation, solicitation, and
building capacity of board and staff to
participate in major donor visits.
Reports to and works closely with
the Executive Director/Yadkin Riverkeeper to
develop and implement all fundraising
activities, including membership development,
major donor campaign, and board
fundraising. The position will also work
closely with our Executive Director and board
members planning special events and friend/fund
raisers. The DOP will also assist in foundation
fundraising efforts and directly oversee all
grant reporting requirements.
General
skills/experiences we are seeking
include:
- Must have five years of experience in non-profit management and fundraising for a similar organization, especially experience with:
- Donor programs
- Special events such as house parties
- Donor and foundation research
- Mail/phone solicitations
- A demonstrated interest and experience in environmental issues
- Superb one-on-one communication skills, including on the phone
- Strong computer skills, including experience with spreadsheets, budgets, databases, and Internet searching
- Accounting Procedures
- Ability to manage many different tasks well
