Waterkeepers Comment on Water Quality Rules in North Carolina

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

In August, a group of Waterkeepers from North Carolina and Waterkeeper Alliance submitted their second set of comments on the increasingly divisive issue of surface water and ground water monitoring rules for animal feeding operations (AFOs) proposed in North Carolina. The Waterkeepers support implementation of rules that efficiently and effectively determining when animal waste is being illegally discharged from AFOs. They also believe that an appropriately targeted set of rules will provide the degree of accountability necessary for the state's AFO producers to demonstrate compliance with the state and federal zero-discharge standard.
