Wednesday, April 6, 2011
"[Clean water is] the most fundamental,
basic human right."

Donna Lisenby
serves as North Carolina's Upper Watauga
Riverkeeper and sits on the Waterkeeper
Alliance Board of Directors as an At-Large
Representative. She is also the Director
of Water Programs at Upper Watauga
Riverkeeper's parent organization, Appalachian
Voices. Donna's river and the communities
she serves lie near the heart of Appalachian
coal country. The pollution and
environmental descruction caused by the coal
industry around the town of Boone, North
Carolina, has led her to become a leading
public advocate for ending dangerous practices
like mountain top removal mining and improper
disposal of the toxic coal ash waste produced
by power plants across the U.S. As you'll hear
in the video, clean water is the most basic of
human rights to Donna. She grew up with a
strong affinity for everything related to water
and chose to make it her life's work in
adulthood. That's a tremendous boon for
the Waterkeeper
family.
Thanks Donna, and
keep up the good work!
