Waterkeeper President Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Artist Chair Jeff Koons will present 

Art for Water

 a benefit art auction, taking place at the Matthew Marks Gallery in New York City on Monday March 5, 2012. 

A wide range of artists representing the art communities finest have come together to support Waterkeeper Alliance the world’s largest and fastest growing clean water advocacy group.  Waterkeeper is on the front lines protecting this resource uniting 200 Waterkeepers who patrol protect and advocate on rivers, bays, lakes and streams on six continents around the globe,—more than 1.6 million square miles of waterways –fighting every day for their communities right to have swimmable, drinkable and fishable waters. 

The event will feature significant works by such notable artists as; Marina Abramovic • Chuck Close • Dan Colen • Gregory Crewdson •  Willem de Kooning • Olafur Eliasson • Jasper Johns•  Donald Judd • Alex Katz • Jeff Koons• Roy Lichtenstein • Robert Longo • Sarah Morris • Catherine Opie • Raymond Pettibon• Peter Sarkisian • Laurie Simmons • Josh Smith 

There will be a very special performance by Debbie Harry from “Blondie.” that evening before the live auction gets under way. 

Previews of the “Art for Water” collection being auctioned for the benefit of Waterkeeper Alliance can be viewed on the Paddle 8 web site and live bidding has begun.
