Treasurer
Deb Self provides executive leadership for
San
Francisco Baykeeper http://www.baykeeper.org/,
a founding member of the Waterkeeper Alliance.
Established in 1989, as the fourth Waterkeeper
organization nationwide – and first on the
Pacific Coast – San Francisco Baykeeper defends
the estuary and coastal waters of the San
Francisco Bay from sewage overflows, oil
spills, pollution runoff from city streets,
toxic pollution from a large oil and chemical
industry, and agribusiness pollution from the
Great Central Valley. In supporting the
Baykeeper, Sejal Choksi, Deb’s executive role
at San Francisco Baykeeper is to ensure the
organization’s long-term sustainability and
fiscal health. Having joined Baykeeper’s staff
in 2003, Deb became Executive Director and
joined the Board of Waterkeeper Alliance in
2006. Now serving as Treasurer, Deb helps
provide financial management and fundraising
oversight. Deb has more than 25 years of
experience in nonprofit organizational
development and environmental advocacy and
regulatory enforcement. Deb has worked for
Earthjustice, Warren Wilson College
and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Her
Masters in sociology focused on environmental
justice, and she holds a bachelors degree in
geology.
