Data Management Associate
Organizational overview: Waterkeeper Alliance is an environmental non profit organization that supports and connects over 180 local Waterkeeper programs – full-time paid advocates who serve as investigator, scientist, educator and lawyer for their waterway. The Alliance also runs national and international environmental campaigns. Our approach is powerful because our national and international advocacy is based on the real grassroots connection that Waterkeepers enjoy with their community.

Position Description: The primary responsibilities of the Data Management Associate is to maintain records in the donor management database and process financial information and transactions. This position reports to the Director of Fund Development and the Staff Accountant.

Accounting Responsibilities: (approx. 50%)
• Assist the Staff Accountant in accurately tracking and reporting financial activities of the organization via the Fund-EZ financial system.
• Input accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, reviewing coding information for accuracy; record incoming checks and code office expenses for Staff Accountant to process.
• Review, route and process vendor invoices and employee expense reimbursement forms for accuracy and adherence to WKA policies and procedures
• Assist Staff Accountant in maintenance and preparation of records for annual audit.
• Collect timesheets for payroll.
• Create and update personnel documents as necessary for compliance with human resources vendors, Administaff.
• Assist Staff Accountant with monthly reconciliation process, including 403b distributions.
• Under the direction of the Staff Accountant, fulfill reporting requirements for general office contracts, insurance and other policies.

Development responsibilities: (45%)
• Update and maintain accurate information in the donor management database, Donor Perfect, including individual, corporate and foundation donors’ private information, gifts, benefits, visits and activities, etc.
• Assist the Director of Fund Development in tracking and reporting fundraising results for all programs and constituents using Donor Perfect, MSExcel spreadsheets and other tracking tools.
• Coordinate with the Communications and Marketing team to ensure distribution lists and donor records are properly in sync for the magazine and other publications.
• Coordinate with Direct Response vendors to ensure distribution lists and donor records are updated and in sync for traditional mail, email and other web-based communications.
• Prepare and distribute matching gift forms and information.
• Generate and distribute appropriate gift acknowledgements to donors: individuals, foundations and corporate donors from online sources, direct mail and events.
• Assist Director of Fund Development with the preparation and distribution of solicitation packages for major funders and donors.


General Administrative responsibilities: (5%)
• Liaise with vendors, consultants and suppliers related to the above responsibilities.
• Open, sort and distribute mail and packages.
• Serve as a back up IT troubleshooter.
• Participate and represent WKA at outreach and fundraising events as necessary.
• Other duties as assigned.

DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper Development Director

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, a nonprofit environmental organization with 5,000 members and offices in Atlanta and Gainesville, works to protect the Chattahoochee River and its tributaries through education, monitoring, outreach, and legal actions. UCR is seeking a highly motivated, organized and creative individual to serve as its full-time Development Director and oversee all aspects of its fundraising program. Working with the Executive Director, Events & Outreach Director and other staff, as well as UCR’s Development Committee, the Development Director will focus on the following primary duties.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
The Development Director will:
• Develop and guide the implementation of fundraising strategies and programs in order to raise about $1.2 million in restricted and unrestricted funds annually;
• Manage annual campaigns and all other development activities including membership and major donor gifts;
• Oversee or write grants to foundations, government agencies and corporations and manage these donor relationships;
• Identify new funding sources and conduct grant research;
• Be responsible for grant spend downs and financial reports
• Assist Executive Director and Business Director in the preparation and management of the organizational and program budgets
• Help oversee special events and membership programs;
• Supervise the management of the donor database, grant reporting and mail appeals;
• Manage a planned giving program;
• Serve as primary staff liaison to the Development Committee;

NECESSARY SKILLS:
• 5+ years experience as a development professional;
• Demonstrated track record in raising major gifts from all types of sources;
• Broad experience in board and donor relations and management;
• Excellent research, planning and organizational skills;
• BA with excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Ability to develop supportive partnerships with donors;
• Good decision-making, problem-solving and interpersonal skills;
• Proficiency at Microsoft Word, Excel, and donor databases;
• Flexibility and adaptability to change.

Flint Riverkeeper & Executive Director
The mission of the Flint Riverkeeper is to restore and preserve the habitat, water quality and flow of the Flint River & its tributaries for the benefit of current and future generations and dependent wildlife.

Advocacy

The RK shall serve as the primary spokesperson for FRK and for the River. This role includes interviews and presentations to public agencies, government officials, foundations, civic groups and the media on a variety of topics some of which may be controversial and technically complex.

The RK will become informed about any efforts to build dams on the River, and will contact landowners and recreational users of the Flint about such plans. Other conservation groups will be contacted and solicited for assistance in opposing the dams.

The RK will monitor the North Georgia Metro Water District planning process, and the Atlanta Regional Commission’s efforts to dedicate all of Georgia’s waters to continued growth in the metro area, and will advocate for the rivers and streams and rights of downstreamers.

Outreach and Education

The RK will bear primary responsibility for building a broad, diverse membership base for FRK. Members will be sought from one end of the watershed to the other. Members will include all kinds of users of the Flint including those who fish, hunt, float, paddle or otherwise enjoy the Flint as well as landowners and other interested parties.

The RK will inform the residents of the watershed, the media, government agencies, legislators, and visitors about the condition of the Flint, the threats to the river and the FRK's services and programs.

The RK will master issues relating to water policy and law in Georgia and threats to Georgia’s water resources, and will be active in participating in all discussions of such issues so that FRK can productively contribute to the development of policies and laws consistent with its mission.

Enforcement

The RK shall engage all those whose conduct impairs or threatens to impair the water quality or water quantity of the River or its tributaries, and seek to prevent or redress any such impairments. Should negotiations fail to bring satisfactory results, the FRK will initiate litigation to achieve protection of the river upon approval by the Board of Directors.

General Responsibilities

· Be responsible for the day-to-day administration and management of the organization
· Maintain an on-the-river presence to investigate diminution of water flow, pollution sources, support monitoring efforts, and identify problems that affect water quantity or water quality and the health of Flint River Basin aquatic ecosystems.
· Work to assure the rights of downstream citizens, the health of the River and its tributaries, compliance with the Clean Water Act and other environmental laws, respond to citizen complaints, devise appropriate remedies, and raise public awareness of river issues.
· Review and comment on state water planning, water quality standards, regulation enforcement actions, and other administrative mandates that relate to protecting water quantity and water quality within the Flint River Basin.
· Work with Flint River Basin communities, local, state, and federal governments and agencies to promote clean water and river restoration in the Flint River and its watershed.
· Engage and inspire citizens to be proactive in monitoring water quantity and water quality in the River and its tributaries and to increase citizen participation in state water planning and rule making, and to attend public hearings and give public comment at such functions.
· Work cooperatively with government agencies, legislators, business leaders, the community within the River basin, and other Riverkeeper and conservation organizations.
· Design and implement fundraising strategies, proposals, mailings and applications to support the work of the Flint Riverkeeper and the Riverkeeper Office.
· The RK is hired by and accountable to the Board of Directors, which shall establish policy for the FRK organization.

Specific Duties

Manage media, community, government, and volunteer relations/communications.
Manage ongoing negotiation efforts, litigation matters and potential enforcement actions
· Serve as the point-person with federal, state and local agencies and elected officials.
· In consultation with the Finance Committee, develop an annual budget for review by the Treasurer and approval by the Board of Directors; administer, and track the approved budget.
· Develop and implement fundraising programs, working in concert with the Board of Directors.
· Monitor, review and analyze planned public and private sector actions for potential adverse impacts to the watershed and be prepared to advocate for the highest level of environmental protections.
· Advise the Board of Directors on local and regional environmental issues.
· Hire and manage a dedicated and experienced staff.
· Be responsible for the financial records of the organization;
· Prepare and/or supervise preparation of technical and/or advocacy position papers, and be prepared to present and defend these potentially controversial positions in a professional and technically justifiable manner.
· Work with local, state and federal agencies to enhance the enforcement and compliance of existing environmental rules and regulations and identify areas needing new and improved regulation.
· Manage the Flint Riverkeeper hotline.
· Oversee the Flint Riverkeeper office.
· Oversee the publication of a quarterly newsletter for the membership;
· Present a written Annual Report to the Membership for insertion in the fall newsletter;

Qualifications

The Riverkeeper will be passionate about water quality protection and river restoration and will be willing to implement legal and other strategies to protect and restore water quality and aquatic ecosystems of the Flint River Basin.
The Riverkeeper will possess excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, especially writing and public speaking, diplomacy, the ability to inspire, and working well with others.

The Riverkeeper must have an understanding of non-profit management; knowledge of environmental policy; ability to grasp complex scientific, political, and regulatory issues; ability to think strategically and to plan, implement, and evaluate new and existing programs; knowledge of and familiarity with non-profit fundraising and major donor development; knowledge of and experience with advocacy, organizing, media relations, and public relations; and a collaborative, team-oriented work style balanced with ability to make timely executive decisions.

The Riverkeeper must be proficient in word processing, basic photography skills and either have knowledge of or the ability to learn the technology required for water quality and habitat monitoring and surveillance.

The Riverkeeper will have a minimum of Bachelor’s degree.

Physical Demands:

Requires monitoring by air, water and land with frequent travel and occasional overnight travel.
Must be able to operate, load and tow up to a 22-foot boat and trailer. Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.

Potomac Riverkeeper (PRK) seeks an Upper Potomac Manager to support the goals and mission of PRK and its
River Protection Programs. The Upper Potomac Manager will be a spokesperson, enforcer of environmental laws,
public advocate, and educator for PRK in the Potomac Watershed above Harpers Ferry. The position reports to the
Executive Director, but additionally, the individual will be a member of the Team working in partnership with the
Shenandoah Riverkeeper, Potomac Riverkeeper and Director of Operations. The Upper Potomac Manager will
also mentor PRK Staff so that they may learn and understand the critical public policy, environmental science and
educational issues that impact the water quality and quantity of the Upper Potomac Watershed. Salary based on

Duties & Responsibilities:
• Serve as a full-time public advocate for the Upper Potomac River, monitoring, documenting and reporting
activity damaging to the water quality of the watershed
• Advocate and enforce compliance with environmental laws, including the use of litigation and

attorneys on litigation efforts associated with water quality issues of the Upper Potomac

Responsibilities:
The Web and Media Coordinator will coordinate all new and conventional media activities and actively manage online communities of shared interests, encouraging their activity and growth in support of the WKA mission. The Coordinator will build WKA’s web presence through its own sites and through social networking media in general. The communities will include all WKA’s constituents and potential constituents (including donors, activists, Waterkeeper organizations, and the general public) with the aim of creating dynamic dialogue and participation.
? Develop online and offline media strategies and practices with senior organizational leadership
? Work with the cross-departmental team to implement the tactics and strategies to build visibility, advance our work with partners and policymakers and achieve our organizational objectives, including community mobilization, outreach, fundraising and membership development
? Implement and maintain all activities related to leveraging the new WKA website as an interactive & viral communications hub, including integration with other online social networking sites
? Work with our Advocacy and Development Departments to develop email engagement plan and lead implementation of email campaigns, viral campaigns, online advertising and online/offline strategies
? Provide assistance to staff and member organizations about effective use of web 2.0, social media and conventional media outlets in campaign development, membership outreach and fundraising efforts
? Oversee creative production and distribution of regular outbound emails and newsletter programs, including copyediting as needed
? Develop media lists and conduct outreach to media contacts for promotion of WKA activities, including campaigns, events and other initiatives
? Take advantage of opportunities (including search engine optimization) to drive traffic to WKA web site
? Research and identify graphics and other web materials for campaigns, organizational initiatives and events
? Ensure security of all web properties and compliance with the user privacy policy.
? Develop and maintain a consistent look and feel throughout all web properties
? Keep current with emerging web technologies through relevant blogs, listservs, and other tools
? Collect, compile, analyze and report on website, media and other metrics to inform the development and refinement of plans and strategies

Qualifications:
? At least three years of marketing/communications work experience, including two years of demonstrated online communications experience that includes maintaining a dynamic website
? Experience developing and maintaining new web technologies and viral marketing strategies (including blogs, Twitter, FaceBook, YouTube, etc.) and a working knowledge of nonprofit fundraising and communications programs and techniques are required
? Strong communication skills, an understanding of brand standards and marketing, and a keen interest in activism
? Creativity to bring fresh audiences to our issues
